Hosanna College of Education Continuing and Distance Education Directorate 

Objectives 

The major objective of the continuing & Distance Education Directorate is to create opportunities of education and training for individuals in order that their quest for knowledge and career development is met. By so doing, the directorate will also contribute to the human resource needs of the region. In order to achieve its objectives, the Directorate will establish partnerships both within the College and beyond as part of the effort exerted to contribute its part towards realizing the mission of the College. In specific terms, the Directorate has the following Objectives: 

  • Increasing opportunities for continuing and distance education programs by way of diversifying provisions and areas of specialization. 

  • Building capacity at College by upgrading the level of qualification of the staff Providing education and training for professionals in the various sectors with a view to promoting efforts for change and delivery of better quality services at all levels. 

  • Developing collaborative programs with the community, government agencies, and non-profit corporations to enhance economic development and the quality of life.

The major tasks of the directorate are to: 

  • Develop CEP guidelines and frameworks to ensure the implementation of continuing and distance education programs by academic units. 

  • Plan and coordinate the offering of education and training programs through   continuing education, week end programs, distance or virtual and summer education for short-term training for capacity building, or for imparting knowledge and skills in specific fields, and award appropriate certificates. 

  • Work in consultation with Deans, other relevant academic units and directorates to develop strategies for the management of income generated through continuing and distance education as part of community services. 

  • Provide programs to enable semiprofessionals or professionals who may already have diploma or degrees to advance their careers by acquiring access to supplementary skills or capabilities. 

  • Use different centers to make continuing education accessible to everyone as a starting point for a lifelong learning process. 

  • Develop, coordinate and implement more flexible programs compared to those executed at higher education colleges in the region. 

  • Ensure equal access to College academic resources for students enrolled in continuing education programs. 

  • Oversee the proper execution of rules and regulations of the College regarding the teaching-learning process in the College’s extension, summer/in-service and distance education programs. 

  • Monitor and oversee the process of appointment of instructors for continuing education programs as per the legislation and applicable laws. 

  • Carry out additional activities assigned to by the Academic Research &community service Vice Dean.
